Jake Shimabukuro
１９７６年、ハワイ・オアフ島生まれ。
１９９８年 PURE HEARTのメンバーとしてデビュー。
翌９９年、アルバム「Pure Heart｣がハワイのグラミー賞と称されるナ・ホク・ハノハノ・アウォーズで、新人賞や最優秀アルバム賞を含む主要４部門を受賞。
０２年にソロ・アーティストとしての活動をスタート。２００６年、邦画「フラガール」サウンドトラック担当。

JAKE

はい、常にチャレンジです。もっと経験を積みたいですね

 

Oh yeah. It’s very challenging. I want to get more experience.

KATSU

そういう映画の人たちって、どうやってジェイクさんにアプローチしてくるんだろうね？

 

How do they approach you?

JAKE

ハリウッドの制作者からは直接連絡がありました。『フラガール』と『サイドウェイズ』はソニー経由でした。『フラガール』のプロデューサーは僕の音楽をよく知っていたので、撮影の段階で構想があったみたいです

 

Usually, well the Hollywood crew contacted us directly. With the “Hula Gir” and “Sideways” they contacted Sony. The producter of “Hula Girl,” she was very familiar with my music. In her mind, when she was making the film she wanted me to do the music.

KATSU

ジェイクさんハワイでも結構ライヴはやられるんですか？

 

Do you perform in Hawaii often?

JAKE

ハワイには１年のうち３ヶ月くらいしかいないんですよ。なので、いる間はできるだけライウ゛はしています。あとチャリティ・イベントをたくさんやっています。自分のライヴはたまにですね。マウイ島にマウイ・アーツ＆カルチャーセンターという素晴らしい会場があるんですが、そこで１年に１回は公演します

 

I’m only in Hawaii about 3 months of the year. I try to play as much as possible while I’m back home. I try to do fundraising shows for charities. Once in a while I do my own concert. Like in Maui, there’s a nice concert venue called the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, and I usually play there once a year.

When’s the next one?

JAKE

次はオアフで２公演予定してまして、一つはチャリティ・イベントでレインボー・フォー・ジャパン・キッズという、震災で被害にあった子供たちをハワイに呼ぶプロジェクトで

 

The next one in Oahu when I go back this trip, I’m doing two events. One is a charity concert for an organization called Rainbow for Japan Kids,that supports lot of the children that were affected by the tsunami. The program brings them over to Hawaii

I’ve heard about them, yeah.

JAKE

それが８月３日、パゴダ・ホテルという会場で、その翌週にワイキキのDFSで「ウクレレ・デイ」というイベントをやります

 

I’m going to be doing that on the 3rd, at a place called the Pagoda Hotel. The following week, I’m doing a little collaboration with DFS in Waikiki, called “The Ukulele Day.”

KATSU

何それ！

 

That sounds interesting!

JAKE

昨年やった時はカラカウア通りを封鎖して、屋台を出したり、料理の鉄人の森本シェフに参加して頂いたり、タノシカッタ

 

Last year when we did it, we closed down the whole Kalakaua Street, we had vendors, food, we even had chef Morimoto, the iron chef. TANOSHIKATTA.

KATSU

ジェイクさん結婚式はホノルルでされたんですか？

 

Did you have your wedding in Honolulu?

JAKE

はい

 

Yes

KATSU

僕も玲雄も、ハワイで結婚してるんですよ

 

Both me and my son got married in Hawaii too.

JAKE

今から40年くらい前

 

About 40 years ago.

うちの両親はヌウアヌ教会で

 

Yeah, my parents got married at Nu’uanu Church

その時のピアノ弾いてくれた人がね

 

There was this lady who played piano there

Aunty Leila. Her album is really good. Beautiful piano

どちらで結婚されたんですか？

 

Where did you get married?

LEO

僕はハワイ島のホノカアという村の映画館で結婚しました。そこで以前、映写技師をやってて、その時の話を本に書いて、映画になったんですけど

 

Big Island. At a movie theater, called Honokaa People’s Theater. I used to work there as a projectionist, wrote a book about my experience, which became a movie.

JAKE

そうですよね、そのお話は聞いてました。僕の妻はハワイ島出身なんですよ

 

Oh yeah, I remember you telling me that. My wife is from the Big Island.

LEO

どこ？

 

Which part?

JAKE

ワイメアです

 

She’s from Waimea

KATSU

ああ本当に?

 

Oh

JAKE

彼女の家族はヒロ出身です

 

Her family’s from Hilo

KATSU

テレビノコメディショーニデマス。その後１週間ほどハワイにカエリマス。その後は韓国です

 

I will perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live, then I return to Hawaii for maybe one week. And then I go to Korea.

KATSU

大変だね

韓国では延世大学でライウ゛ですよね？

 

You’re playing at a Yonsei University in Korea right ?

KATSU

凄いね?！じゃ孫先生にあってくれば良いよ

 

That’s impressive! You should meet Mr. Sohn Jin-chaek if you’re in Seoul.

LEO

韓国の国立劇場のディレクターです

 

Yeah, he’s the director of the National Theater.

KATSU

ジェイクさん最後にお願いあるんだけど、手触らせて

 

Jake san, one last request. Can I touch your hand?

JAKE

この手でやってるんだ、凄いねぇ。温かい指してるね。ありがとうございます(ウクレレもそっと触る)
