Before switching out my wardrobe for spring, I decided to change seasons through film instead—with Izakaya Choji and Station, brought to life by Ken Takakura and director Yasuo Furuhata. I love the old guy calling out “Kanojo!” trying to flirt—it’s somehow charming. And that fishing scene—when they both say, “Ahhh! That was a great day off!!” in unison—I want to shout that too. The absolute best. That’s Izakaya Choji for you.
The heroines in both films were stunning: Reiko Ohara, Ayumi Ishida, and Chieko Baisho—all radiant, each with their own kind of allure that seems to pour through the screen like scent. There’s even a moment of humor where Tetsuya Takeda makes a brief appearance—a nice nod to The Yellow Handkerchief. And Baisho’s graceful way of serving customers? I want to learn from her. That perfect shot composition in Station—what was that? Just flawless. I could watch the two leads talk forever. It made me think: “Isn’t Made in Japan truly the best in the world?” I was moved. To be reunited with such a remarkable Ken Takakura film—one that calls for hot sake—is a gift. I’m so thankful.
And now, at our store, the fragrances of those very heroines seem to drift in, paired with Mimo-chan’s incredible illustrated boxes. Eva carries a sensual blend of camellia and violet. Tatiana, a soft and gentle hint of osmanthus. Paula, an unforgettable mix of citrus and jasmine. Our eau de parfum, designed to be enjoyed purely and for long moments—just like me—is a convenient roll-on type that travels easily. Try it alongside the ROLL UP SHIRT, now celebrating its 10th birthday. And don’t stick to just one—like Newton discovered, try a different scent for each occasion. (Just a note for gentlemen: it’s best to avoid applying perfume just before sushi or other meals.)
We’re also launching room sprays—perfect for gifts. Whether at home, in the car, or discreetly on your desk at work, they bring a lovely touch of scent to your surroundings. All of our fragrances are unisex, so you can enjoy them with your partner or family.
The cherry blossoms are starting to bloom—we’re looking forward to welcoming you in-store this week!
Lastly, a personal note: To Ayumi Ishida—thank you so much for your unforgettable works.
